As we enter our 20s, our skin’s ability to synthesize collagen and elastin gradually decreases with every year.
With the loss of precious collagen and elastin resources – the signs of aging start to become more prevalent – including skin laxity, fine lines and wrinkles, and a dull and tired appearance.
In addition, our skin also beings to slow down its production of hyaluronic acid; another key ingredient that keeps our skin soft, supple, and moisturized.
While adhering to a healthy diet and skincare routine can help – it is still very much insufficient to restore the loss of these key ingredients and stop the signs of aging from occurring.
So, what else can we do to regain our skin’s youthfulness?
Rejuran Healer: A Skin Rejuvenation Treatment
Originating from South Korea, Rejuran is an HSA-approved, skin rejuvenation treatment that is primarily made up of biological molecules known as polydeoxyribonucleotides (PDRN) and polynucleotides (PN).
In short, both PDRN and PN are molecules that are found in DNA, and are key building blocks in keeping our skin healthy and vibrant. Together, PN and PDRN help to accelerate fibroblast (collagen-making cells) activity – which help to regenerate the skin by inducing collagen and elastin production.
In addition, they have a hydrating and scaffolding effect in the skin – allowing new cells to grow and “heal” the skin at a much faster rate.
Rejuran Healer is mainly derived from Salmon sperm DNA – a proprietary and registered drug that possesses tissue repairing, wound healing, anti-ischemic, and anti-inflammatory properties.
Other Benefits of Rejuran:Improving skin elasticity
- Improving skin elasticity
- Improving skin hydration
- Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- Repairing the skin and balancing oil production
- Improving skin tone and texture
- Boosting overall skin health
A 2010 study showed a significant improvement in skin elasticity, texture, and hydration after rubbing salmon DNA on human skin. There are also studies displaying the anti-aging benefits of salmon DNA, as well as its ability to protect the skin from harmful UV damage.
This makes Rejuran suitable for treating conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, saggy skin, acne scars, enlarged pores, and even dark eye circles.
The evidence supporting Rejuran
In 2007, a study was conducted with 14 female patients which resulted in an improvement of skin hydration by 14.69% and skin elasticity by 21.7% after Rejuran treatment.
In regards to PDRN, there are plenty of studies that show a bigger improvement in the time needed to complete wound healing and overall tissue repair regeneration as compared to the control group, with no significant adverse effects reported.
Salmon DNA is chosen simply due to its safety profile and bio-compatibility with human tissues. The PDRN that is extracted goes through a strict rigorous process that purifies and removes any active proteins and peptides that may cause immune reactions – thus making Rejuran an extremely reliable procedure.
What about skinboosters and fillers?
The role of Rejuran, skinboosters, and dermal fillers may appear similar on the surface, but their key ingredients and mechanisms of action are very much different.
Firstly, majority of skinboosters and fillers are made from hyaluronic acid (HA), while Rejuran is made from PDRN and PN.
As compared to PDRN, HA works by absorbing and storing moisture up to 1,000 times its weight in the skin. HA is thus more valuable for hydrating and brightening the skin.
A study pertaining to patients suffering from ulcers of the lower limbs were treated with a topical gel containing PDRN and HA – results showed that complete wound healing was obtained in 67% of patients treated with both PDRN and HA, as compared to only 22% of patients receiving only HA.
A 2014 study involving a clinical and animal trial compared Rejuran and a HA-based filler for treating crow’s feet – in the animal study, the Rejuran group showed the greatest elasticity and collagen composition, including a significant improvement in skin surface roughness and depth of wrinkles.
On the other hand, fillers are all uniquely formulated to have a particular texture, density, and injection depth – making them ideal for a variety of concerns.
Ultimately, the best treatment for you depends on what your goal is:
If you want to boost hydration and achieve a more luminous glow, skinboosters is the best option. For facial augmentation that allows you to add volume and sculpt the face as desired, dermal fillers can help to instantly lift the face where Rejuran and skinboosters aren’t able to.
If you want to reverse the signs of aging and heal damaged skin at a cellular level, or improve pigmentations and the appearance of acne scars – Rejuran should be your go-to choice. In fact, Rejuran can be combined with skinboosters and fillers (non-cross-linked) to achieve better results!
At our clinic, we offer Rejuran HB – a mix of PDRN and HA that is ideal for hydration and promoting collagen synthesis. With this, there may be no need for additional skinboosters such as Restylane.
We also offer Rejuran S – designed to treat depressed scars and improve the appearance of all scar types. A combination approach is often recommended to treat acne scars, and we like to use the fractional CO2 or INFINI acne laser treatment for synergistic effects and help with inflammation. Our doctors also like to complement Rejuran S with subcision acne scars treatment in order to help raise the scar and smooth out the skin even further.
Lastly, we offer Rejuran I – specially designed for use on the delicate eye area to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, without the lumpiness and downtime.
At the end of the day, the best treatment is one that not only works superficially on the skin, but deep within. To get naturally beautiful results and improve skin rejuvenation by as much as 20% – book an appointment with our doctors today to awaken your skin and get them to work like they once did in your glory days!
1. What is the treatment process like?
After cleansing your skin, a topical numbing cream and local anaesthesia will be applied before starting treatment.
Our doctor will then use a tiny needle to administer PDRN directly under the skin at specific points on the face. A single session uses a single syringe containing 2ml of DNA. A laser treatment may also be used to help speed up the healing process of the needle marks and reduce any redness and provide relief.
Sometimes, a machine gun can be used, although it is often not recommended due to the possibility of leaks and wastage. To promote maximum absorption, doing it manually allows the doctor to precisely target specific layers within the dermis and deliver larger doses to achieve better results.
The entire treatment process takes just 15 – 25 minutes to complete, with visible bumps on the skin that can last a few hours to a day. You may also experience some swelling and bruising that can last up to 48 hours.
2. What results can I expect?
Because Rejuran Healer aims to work deep inside the skin, results can take up to 4 weeks to see any noticeable improvements.
The recommended treatment plan is 3 sessions, each one about 4 weeks apart. After that, you will only need to drop by the clinic every 4 – 6 months to maintain or enhance your results. When done with an experienced and competent doctor, the results of Rejuran can last for years.
3. What other treatments are recommended with Rejuran?
Despite being a powerful regeneration treatment by itself, Rejuran can be combined with other treatment options such as skinboosters, micro-needling, Ultherapy, HIFU, threadlifts, and fractional CO2 laser to treat a variety of conditions.
The best way is to consult with our doctors, who will customize a plan to help you maximize your treatment outcomes by optimizing a range of treatments.
4. Who is the ideal candidate for Rejuran?
The ideal candidate for Rejuran is anyone who wants to achieve healthy and youthful skin in a safe and natural way.
Those in their 20s can enjoy the benefits of Rejuran as a preventative measure against aging and treat their acne scars, and older patients can use Rejuran to reverse any damages done to their skin caused by internal and external forces overtime.
Do inform our doctors about any past medications, facial injections, or procedures done previously so they can further advise on your suitability.
